In the Belly of a Whale
//Whale is a digital iteration of commuting experiences, presented with a video titled 'In the Belly of a Whale'.
‘In the Belly of a Whale’ shows a bleak train carriage filled with faceless avatars and chaotic chunks of text.
It depicts the commute as a liminal experience between arrivals and departures, home and work, routines and happenings, and private and social. The video reconstructs commuting spaces and reflects on the individuals' narratives using texts. It was originally designed as a 360-degree video that allows viewers to look around, the movement of carriages makes them pass by the surroundings rather than observe closely. The sound is designed with recordings of actual commute journeys in Seoul and London. With different tempos and ambiences, it intensifies repetition in the spaces as well as guides the audience to the place not existing anywhere.
